Are you curious?

There may be many reasons why you have started to read this article. Perhaps you want to know more about Christianity. Maybe you are just generally intrigued by the title, even wondering what these ‘Christians’ think about things. Perhaps you didn’t realise what this article was about at all and are simply curious as the title suggests. Whatever the reason is for starting to read this, you are not alone in being curious.

In the book of Acts, which is found in the Bible, it talks about another curious person who wanted to hear what a Christian had to say. That person was called King Agrippa, and the person he was going to hear was a prisoner – the apostle Paul.

Agrippa arrived in much pomp and ceremony, and he invited Paul to speak freely for himself. With the opportunity to say whatever he wanted Paul had only one subject to speak about, and that was the Lord Jesus Christ. He had no concern for himself or any wrong he may have suffered. Paul simply wanted to speak about the most important person who has ever lived. You can read exactly what Paul said in Acts 26.

Before Paul had met the Lord Jesus, he was not curious. He simply wanted to get rid of Christians. But after Paul had met Jesus, his whole life was centred around serving the Lord Jesus Christ. This was because Paul really understood what Jesus had done for him. Pauls conversion is first written about in Acts chapter 9.

And this is what Paul spoke about to King Agrippa: Paul spoke about how Jesus was the one who had saved him by dying on the cross at Calvary. Paul had found forgiveness, peace and hope for the future in the Lord Jesus. Not only this, but Paul knew that the Lord Jesus, having died for our sins at Calvary, was no longer in the grave, but had risen from the dead. Paul hadn’t visited the grave of a dead man; he knew the resurrected Jesus in all of the glory of heaven.
Christianity isn’t a set of rules or a way of living. It is all about a person – the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are curious about Christianity or who Jesus is then you should look at the difference it has made in the lives of people who trust and believe in Him.

In verse 28 of Acts chapter 26 king Agrippa says to Paul “You almost persuade me to become a Christian.” He had heard of all of the things that had gone on at that time and saw what a difference it had made in Paul’s life.
Paul’s response, captured in verses 29, says “I would to God that not only you, but also all who hear me today, might become both almost and altogether such as I am, except for these chains.” That is another important thing for you to know! Every Christian wants you to become one too! It is not a case of winning an intellectual argument or justifying why we believe things.

We do not know if King Agrippa did believe what Paul told him. I hope that as you read this that it may start you on a journey that will go beyond curiosity to a belief and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Coming to know the best person that ever lived will be the best decision you will ever make.
